	STAR*SAND: NEW FORAMINIFERAL DATABASE PROJECT

 
Several years ago, the micro*scope project (http://starcentral.mbl.edu/mv5d/portal/), hosted by the Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole, Massachusetts, was founded to improve public awareness of the staggering diversity of microbial life. Some information (images, species descriptions, etc.) is stored in the micro*scope database, and additional features allow the user to search online resources in a sophisticated way for more information. Recently, a working group has been assembled to organize the foraminiferal section of micro*scope, called star*sand.
